About This Site

Traditionally groups of artists used to write a manifesto to describe their painting philosophy. Here's the philosophy behind this web site:

This is not a site for 'successful' artists. By 'successful', I mean any artist who:

Can get a perfect likeness, first time.

Never struggles for inspiration.

Can paint all day, every day.

Owns a beautiful, spacious studio.

Can mix any colour from only two pigments.

Understands 'colour theory' or 'arial perspective'.

Can always find a willing model

I hate those kinds of artist, don't you?

Why 'ArtistsAnon'?

Most of have to balance our work and our children with our painting. We aren't good a getting a likeness, we produce too many paintings that fall far short of our expectations. Only occasionally do we produce a painting that we are proud of, and selling it in an exhibition would be like parting with an old friend. So we are invisible as artists to everyone except relatives and close friends.

This web site tries (in its own small way) to represent these 'anonymous' artists.

On a technical note, my aim is that:

1. The site must load quickly.

2. It should be polished, easy to read, and easy to navigate.

3. It should be well maintained and updated regularly.

4. The site should offer thorough, unbiased information.

5. It should offer additional links or information.

6. The site must be a credible source of information. That is, it will provide author and source citations, and contact information.

7. The site and its features will be free.

8. The site is non profit making.
