I need to push the boundaries of my painting. Move away from the pretty lansdscape studies I've been doing recently and towards something more distinctive. The recent exhibitions of work by artists who paint urban landscapes, in a semi nostalgic and semi tragic way contain very powerful work. I live in an urban environment, not a countryside landscape. All my experiences are urban. They say to first time novelists to 'write what you know' - well the same applies to painting!
