Tockholes Again

But first to the glass shop to replace the window I had to smash to get back in the house yesterday. First time I've replaced a window and not a bad job I think!

We set off to Tockholes about 11:45 and pained around the ruins of Hollinshead Hall, particularly the well house. There's an interesting article on the well here.

Someone had recently bent back the (very strong) iron railings that prevent access to the inside of the well house, and left a Gideon Bible and several small tea light candles around the lions head. Maybe someone is taking the stories of the supernatural too seriously!

Completed a line and watercolour wash study of the well building. The sunlight through the leaves were nearly pure cadmium yellow - very warm in tone and contrasting nicely with the leaves in shadow.

Overall I'd have preferred to make the painting more mysterious because there is a slightly creepy feeling about the ruins.
